Ridgway
Ridgway, PA
Region: Pennsylvania Wilds
Nestled along the Allegheny National Forest, Ridgway is a beautiful small town that attracts nature and adventure enthusiasts year-round. Beyond the historic town’s impressive lumber mansions and quaint downtown streetscapes are great hiking trails. One of the favored trails is the Clarion River-Little Toby Rail Trail, which provides a particularly picturesque experience in autumn when the foliage paints the area various shades of red, orange and yellow. In the winter months, Ridgway offers cross- country skiing, ice fishing and snowmobiling. Perhaps the best known attraction in Ridgway is the Chainsaw Carvers Rendezvous. Each February, carvers from all over the United States and the world gather in Ridgway to create beautiful carved works of art from logs using only chainsaws and hand tools. Evolving from a backyard gathering of friends to an international affair and the largest event of its kind, the week-long event concludes with an auction of the pieces carved during the week. Other festivals and events are held throughout the year, including the Ridgway Firemen's Celebration in July, a classic town fair in its 80th year, and the Flavors of Fall Festival in October, a tasty celebration of food, music and arts.
