Clearfield
Clearfield, PA
Region: Pennsylvania Wilds
Located in Pennsylvania’s pristine, virtually untouched Pennsylvania Wilds region, Clearfield County is a natural “melting pot” of cultures as a result of its colorful mining and lumber history. Visitors to the area can experience them all through a multitude of local festivals and events held each year to celebrate each municipality, ethnic and cultural tradition. As the first borough to be incorporated into the county, Clearfield has a wealth of historical landmarks from the late 1800s and is known as the “Old Town Historic District.” The area boasts an interesting intermingling of historic homes and buildings, specialty shops and stores. Witmer Park, a community park home to music events throughout the year, and the beloved River Front Festival in the summer, lies along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. Active travelers will enjoy any of the county’s six golf courses for spring, summer, and fall enjoyment. Wine lovers will be pleased to stop just outside of town to visit one of the 10 wineries on the Groundhog Wine Trail, which starts in northern Pennsylvania and winds its way through the area that Punxsutawney Phil calls home.
