Robert Fulton was a famous inventor and accomplished artist who was born in 1765 in a stone farmhouse in Little Britain Township (now Fulton Township) in Lancaster County, PA. He is remembered for having built the steamboat Clermont, which in 1807 successfully traveled up the Hudson River against headwinds and strong currents, making commercial and passenger travel possible along this country's rivers. The Fulton house is furnished in the Colonial style of the 18th century. The Southern Lancaster County Historical Society also provides genealogy and historical research at its headquarters opposite the Robert Fulton birthplace.
