Michaux has a long history in successful forest management. In fact, it was the site of the first forestry school in America. Several types of oak trees populate the Blue Ridge Mountains of the forest, as do many other types of trees. The forest has several access points to the Appalachian Trail, which winds through the entire forest, and hosts 60 miles of non-AT hiking trails.
