Encompassing 400 years of U.S. history, the Journey Through Hallowed Ground National Scenic Byway served as an active transportation route during the Revolutionary War, a critical path for the Underground Railroad, and a key Civil War battleground. Pennsylvania’s 14-mile portion of the byway begins at the intersection of US-15 and PA-394, passing through Gettysburg National Battlefield Park – the site of one of the Civil War’s bloodiest battles that turned the tide of the war.
