Nestled among the Tuscarora Mountains and the Juniata River, Mifflintown serves as the county seat for Juniata County. Noted for its scenery and wildlife, the area was known for its Native American trails, turnpike, canal and railroad, which made the area a major route for trade and travel. With small-town charm, the town serves as the county’s center of business, government and retail. The town is centered around the circa 1875 Juniata County Courthouse, which currently houses county offices and county artifacts. Mifflintown also serves as the headquarters for Empire Kosher Poultry, the nation’s largest producer of kosher poultry. The Juniata River flows along the borough’s borders where residents and visitors enjoy the peaceful waters from the walking bridge or by fishing and boating. Nearby attractions include covered bridges, The Canal Park, Tuscarora Academy and the Port Royal Speedway.
