Sunbury
Sunbury, PA
Region: Valleys of the Susquehanna
Sunbury, originally home to the Susquehannock, Delaware, Shawnee, and Muncy tribes, was incorporated in 1772 and is the seat of Northumberland County. The town is the birthplace of office lighting - Thomas Edison illuminated a Sunbury commercial building with his three-wire electrical system in 1883. Visitors to Sunbury today leave the office behind for the amenities of Shikellamy State Park, which boasts paved trails, picnic areas, and a marina on Lake Augusta. Blue Hill, across from the marina, provides panoramic views of the Susquehanna River. Covered bridges, fishing, camping, and a yearly Riverfest make Sunbury a great place to visit.
